1 Impact assessment of developed nutri-garden on nutritional status of preschool childrens in Anganwadis at Gopalganj District, Bihar Aim of the study to assess the nutritional status of preschool childrens (3-5years) in selected five anganwadis of Gopalganj district in Bihar with a view to develop nutri-garden in anganwadis. Observational, interventional and convenience sampling was adopted to select 30 preschool childrens who are attending anganwadis at Gopalganj district of Bihar. The scale to assess the nutritional status and nutritional assessment checklist were used. The Nutri-garden was developed and an inteventional programmes was organized in all five anganwadi centers of Gopalganj district. Result revealed a high prevalence of child malnutrition in preschool childrens in selected rural anganwadi centers. Development and intervention on Nutri-garden showed the significant improvement on nutritional status of preschool children in selected anganwadi centers centers at Gopalganj district, Bihar. 2026-10-08 2025   View / Download
2 Field efficacy of Trichoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and consortia of microbial agents against tomato late blight, Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary in Indo-Gangetic Plain of Bihar Late blight of tomato, caused by Phytophthora infestans, leads to substantial yield losses and significant reduction in crop production, if not managed effectively. Management of tomato late blight largely relies on chemical treatments, which poses a huge risk to the environment. Assuming that biological control is an alternative for late blight management, Trichoderma viride (Tv), Pseudomonas fluorescens (Pf), Arka Microbial Consortium (Bc1) and PUSA Sampoorn Microbial Consortium (Bc2) in different combinations were evaluated in present investigation. Among all tested combinations of biocontrol agents, Pf + Bc1 + Tv + Bc2 was the most effective with lowest disease incidence (7.41 and 8.85 %) followed by Tv + Bc2 (10.01 and 11.52 %) during 2022-23 and 2023–24, respectively. During both years, biocontrol agents lowered the disease index by 33–72 % as compared to the control. Furthermore, application of Pf + Bc1 + Tv + Bc2 resulted in a marked reduction in the area under disease progress curve (71.7 and 73.4 %) and enhanced the tomato yield (32.9 and 35.5 %) significantly over control. Findings from the present study indicate that the integrated application of T. viride, P. fluorescens and microbial Consortia provides a highly effective and cost-efficient biocontrol strategy for managing late blight in tomato crops. This approach combines multiple beneficial microorganisms that work synergistically to suppress the disease, making it a sustainable and economically viable option for tomato growers. 2026-10-08 2025   View / Download
3 Effectiveness of three manually operated weeding tools for farm women In this study, khurpi, three tyne hoe and twin wheel hoe were evaluated in terms of performance, grade of work and comfort for gram crop with eight farm women (subjects). Weeding operation between the rows of gram crop was carried out with these tools during December-January, when the average ambient temperature and relative humidity were 18OC and 70%, respectively. The result of this investigation indicated that weeding with khurpi and twin wheel hoe could be graded as moderately heavy work, whereas weeding with 3-tyne hoe could be graded as heavy work. However, weeding with khurpi required less energy (9.39 kJ/min) than twin wheel hoe (9. 67 kJ/min). High energy expenditure (12.89 kJ/min) was observed in case of 3-tyne hoe. In terms of higher output, twin wheel hoe was observed best (179 man-h/ha) than 3-tyne hoe (302 man-h/ha) followed by khurpi (447 man-h/ha). Khurpi had shown highest weeding efficiency (92.1 to 94.8 %). Improved weeding tools such as twin wheel hoe and 3-tyne hoe reduced physical exertion and fatigue to make farm women comfortable. 2026-10-08 2020   View / Download
